Dead Bear is Red

This is a piece of fan art that I did for fun. The characters in this piece belong to the Red Bear Dead universe, which was created by Alex Stodolnik (check out his website, if you're not familiar with it - it's awesome).
I think I started this piece over a month ago, but it's a bit hard to tell since I had to constantly take extended breaks in order to make room for homework and, like, Christmas and stuff. I've been wanting to do some RBD fan art forever now, so finally I did.

Here are some in progress shots, if anyone is interested: one, two, three, four, five, six, seven

Always Funk

This is an illustration I did in my spare time, just as an excuse to really try and render something again. It is based on the left hand side of this image, which was an assignment for class. Basically we had to make three post cards according to three themes (Dreams, Confessions, Psychological Fear), but I just wanted to paint again, so I decided to take the one I liked most to the next level.
Basically I'm trying to mix things up a bit compared to my other images by incorporating some different elements, like the flat art nouveau decals. I'm a pretty big fan of blending graphic design elements with illustration, but I'm also a pretty big noob at graphic design. So any kind of input is definitely appreciated!

Here is a bigger version as well.

The character depicted is the Chairman Badfunk, courtesy of Dylan McCrae and Satellite Soda.

RIA Vol.1 Cover

This is the cover to the first issue of the comic "Ria: The Legend of Light", which we are currently producing here in Berlin. The comic itsself isn't done yet, but we're hard at work on it, and it will probably be out in stores sometime next year. It will probably be published in France, by Soleil. Not entirely sure about overseas publishing, we still have to look into that.

Anyways, IMPORTANT: I didn't draw this. I am the colorist. The pencils for this illustration were provided by Thorsten Kiecker (http://www.stenarts.com) . Colors were done by me entirely in Photoshop CS 2.

Any thoughts and suggestions are more than welcome! Let us know what you think. Is this something that would catch your eyes if you saw it in a store?

Avatar Faceoff

This is a scene from the Nickelodeon show "Avatar" that I reconstructed with very extensive creative liberties (basically the only similarity is that these two characters meet), for those of you who don't know what this is. And if you don't, SHAME on you, because Avatar is a damn excellent show.
I started with this image probably two months ago, and had to put it on hold constantly for extended periods of time, because of other work. I thought that once I'd graduate from highschool I'd also have a lot more free time. This did, in fact, turn out not to be the case at all. But I had vowed to do more original finished pieces like this, and here we go.

Any and all comments very welcome! I hope you can enjoy this as much as I enjoyed making it.

Also, here is a larger version of the image, for those interested.

The Lords of Badfunk

So over at SatelliteSoda we made an artbook for the San Diego Comic Convention, and now that we sold most of them I can finally post this one image. I worked on multiple images for the book, but most them are collaborations. This one's all me though, so I thought I'd post it here as well.
The two characters in the picture are Psycho Badfunk (the little floating guy on the left) as well as the Chairman Badfunk, both resident villains of the Satellite Soda character crew. They're typically more sci-fi oriented, but I thought I would spice things up a bit and make them samurai-themed.
Either way, I hope you can dig it!

Satellite Soda Go!

Hey all!
This is an image I did a little while ago to promote Satellite Soda, a group of most handsome artists I joined a while ago. November 1st was the site's one year anniversary, so we thought it would be a good time to release this before it gets too old. Be sure to check out Satellite Soda, and maybe even register at the forum while you're there! We can't exactly promise free beer, but the people are cool enough to make you forget about the beer anyhow.
Also, while making this image I became aware of a literal avalanche of metaphores or hidden symbolism that one could interpret from this painting. Let me assure you none of those are intentional.
I used Photoshop CS to color the background as well as all the graffiti, the drop shadows of the bars and several small touch-ups, and Painter 9 for coloring the characters.
Thanks in advance for any and all comments!
Cheers,
Monk

Smell The Mountain

What started out as an experiment to paint clouds with José Manuel Oli's "fingerpaint" brush quickly turned into something a little more ambitious once the final idea started to take shape inside my head.
I used the Dull Conte in Painter 9 to color the character, and Photoshop CS for everything else (as well as some minore tweaks here and there on the character itsself).
Thanks for looking!

The Start Of Summer

Looks like a great day in Masktown, and since school's finally done, it's clearly time to go on an adventure. Or at least something to that extent is what I was going for. I discovered Painter, and the lovely Conte that comes with it several days ago, and this is my first real and finished result. Some corrections, as well as finishing touches such as the logo on his shirt (which happens to be the Satellite Soda mascott) were added later in Photoshop.
What I'd like to know is whether or not I managed to capture the happy and uplifting feeling that's usually dominant at the start of summer vacation. Since my summer vacation just ended (and it was, as it is every time, way too short), I guess I kind of wanted something to remind me of the beginning.
